Timeless Truths to Help in These Turbulent Times
These sermons listed below are a part of this series and appear in chronological order.
Turning Mission Impossible Into Mission Unstoppable – Part 1
Today we begin a new series of messages from the book of Joshua. Although the people involved in this book lived 3600 years ago, the relevancy of the message is timeless. They were called of God to take the land of promise. Humanly speaking, it was an impossible mission. However, with God all things are possible. Likewise, each of us are called of God to take the land. Certainly, we are not called to take the same land promised to the children of Israel. We have our own land to take in our faith, our families, our friendships, and in our finances. Through our study in the book of Joshua, God wants to empower you to exercise courageous faith and turn mission impossible into mission unstoppable. Turn in your Bibles to the book of Joshua, chapter one. How do you turn mission impossible into mission unstoppable?

The Faith of a Harlot – Part 1
When reading the book of Joshua about “taking the land,” we discover in chapter two a woman who by her words and actions demonstrated the importance of faith. As a result she became the “poster child” for a “Got Faith?” campaign spearheaded in the land of promise. Likewise if we as a church are going to take the land promised to us in McKinney and beyond, we will need to get faith and walk in it. This same faith principle applies in our families, finances, and friendships.

Turning Obstacles into Opportunities
Every one of us faces obstacles daily. Some of them are small like running into traffic, or some are even smaller like getting around the bicycle or skateboard your kids left behind your car when you are running late for work in the morning. However, some obstacles seem insurmountable like a spouse wanting a divorce because of so called irreconcilable differences, or being laid off from your job, or some serious health issue in your own life or the life of a loved one. The focus of today’s message is not how to get rid of all obstacles out of your life. The only way to have no obstacles is to be dead. The message this morning is focused on turning obstacles into opportunities. It is taken from Joshua 3.

Memorializing God’s Victories
All of us have been confronted by what seemed to be an insurmountable obstacle. The children of Israel faced just such an obstacle in the Jordan River. However, that obstacle became an opportunity. God pushed back the waters, and the people were able to cross over. In Joshua 4, God commanded the children of Israel to erect a memorial to commemorate this great victory. Likewise, God desires for each of us today to memorialize God’s great victories in our lives.

Consecration Before Conquest
Every one of us wants victory or success in life. The desire to win seems to be a part of our DNA or our makeup. You can see this trait in millions of Americans who fanatically follow their favorite sports team. We want our team to win. The fact is our Creator God wants us to win! Jesus said in John 10:10, “I came that you may have life and have it more abundantly.” An appropriate paraphrase would be “I came so you could win.” In the book of Joshua, God desired for the children of Israel to win by conquering and taking the land of promise. However, before conquest He wanted them to be completely consecrated to Him. Likewise, God desires for us today to consecrate ourselves to Him and conquer our problems and experience true success in life. This morning’s message is entitled, Consecration Before Conquest.

God’s Unreasonable Plan
Sometimes we read God’s word and come across something that
appears unreasonable or even irrational. Humanly speaking, I
bristle at the commandments by Jesus to turn the other cheek or to
love your enemies or even to go so far as to bless them that curse
you. Likewise, as we continue our study in the book of Joshua, we
come across what appears to be an unreasonable plan for taking
Jericho. The plan communicated by God certainly had never been
attempted in any other battle. Yet when Joshua and the children of
Israel followed God’s plan, they won the battle without the loss of
one Israelite. Each of us today face our own battles. The good
news is if we will by faith follow God’s “unreasonable” plan, he
will give us the victory. Joshua 6:1-27

Sin in the Camp
Chapter seven is preceded by the children of Israel following God’s “Unreasonable” plan and marching around Jericho a prescribed number of times and blowing horns and shouting. And of course you know what happened… The walls fell down flat and Jericho was defeated. What we don’t know until chapter seven is that one man sinned against the Lord by stealing some of the tithe or first fruits that belonged to the Lord. This sin brought defeat to Israel when they went up in battle against Ai. Turn in your bibles to Joshua 7 and let us learn some timeless truths about not letting sin in the camp. The God of Second Chances
Every one of us at one time or another in our lives have really messed up and we have needed a second chance. In Joshua 7 the children of Israel blew it when one of their own stole from God. This angered God and brought defeat to Israel. In Joshua 8 we find Israel confused and afraid. However, we quickly discover God revealing Himself as the God of second chances. In the end Israel accepts God’s second chance and experiences victory over their enemy. Turn in your Bibles to Joshua 8 and let’s see what we can learn about how to receive a second chance from God when we sin and don’t follow God’s plan and experience defeat.

How to Avoid Bad Decisions
Every one of us makes decisions every day of our lives. Most of the
decisions are simple like whether to have scrambled or sunny side up
eggs for breakfast or what color shirt to wear. However, some
decisions are more complex and significant and carry with it greater
consequences. The decision of who to marry or whether or not you
should partner in business with a particular person both have huge life
altering consequences.
In Joshua 9, Joshua and the leaders of Israel had a monumental
decision in front of them and they did not seek the will of God and
therefore made a bad decision. Turn in your Bibles to this chapter
and let’s learn from Israel’s mistake how to avoid making a bad
decision

Pray Like the Battle Depends on God…. Fight like the Battle Depends on You!
All of us have battles to fight. It is a daily struggle just to survive
attacks on us personally, our families, our finances, and our
friendships. Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ doesn’t want us just
to survive our battles, He desires for us to win. In Joshua 10, God
outlines for us the key to winning all our battles. In a nutshell, we
must “Pray like the battle depends on God and fight like the battle
depends on you.”

Choose This Day Whom You Will Serve
In Joshua 24, Israel’s leader, Joshua gave his farewell address to
the people. He charged them to choose to serve God. If they
would do this, he promised them God’s blessings. However, if
they chose to follow other gods, God would curse them. Today,
this same scriptural principle is in effect. God desires to bless us.
He will only bless us if we choose to serve him.
